Senior Maritime Systems Engineer – MacDill AFB

Support U.S. Special Operations maritime acquisition and lifecycle programs at MacDill AFB. Evaluate maritime platforms, engineering changes, testing, standards compliance, and technical decisions.

Description

  • Advise government counterparts on the adequacy and clarity of engineering and analytical processes.
  • Review engineering change proposals, waiver and deviation requests, and nonconforming materials.
  • Record and assess findings from critical and complex engineering activities.
  • Prepare leadership briefing inputs on assigned programs, projects, issues, and proposed resolutions.
  • Adapt technical support to emergencies and evolving program or production needs.
  • Collaborate with managers, budget staff, and engineering authorities to develop and secure project approvals.
  • Assess and recommend programs and development plans against IACS, ABS, and DNV GL standards.
  • Support contract changes and provide technical recommendations for approving change orders.
  • Assist with budget oversight for engineering activities.
  • Provide decision-support material for plans, specifications, cost estimates, design calculations, schedules, cost proposals, and engineering studies.
  • Contribute to the technical evaluation of market surveys.
  • Plan, conduct, and document surveillance of design, development, and production activities.
  • Analyze performance trends, propose corrective actions, capture lessons learned, and improve processes.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • DAWIA Practitioner Equivalency, or Warfighting Acquisition University Practitioner equivalent, in Engineering, Program Management, or Science and Technology (S&T).
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience researching, developing, testing, and evaluating maritime craft and craft subsystems for procurement, production, and field deployment.
  • Ability to interpret, select, and apply engineering principles and guidelines.
  • Ability to investigate and define engineering problems, analyze their causes, and develop solutions that satisfy requirements.
  • Working knowledge of multidisciplinary engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to assess advanced scientific and environmental or engineering technologies and integrate them into relevant systems.
  • Preferred experience in test planning and execution, or in maritime/Naval ship design, construction or certification, evaluation, and execution criteria.
  • Preferred experience applying IACS, ABS, or DNV GL standards.
