Senior Grant Accountant (Hybrid, Connecticut)

Lead grant accounting, budgeting, reconciliations, reporting, and financial analysis for Advanced Behavioral Health, Inc. Support the Controller and CFO with audits, compliance, and accounting process improvements.

Description

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly grant reports for funders
  • Create and maintain grant budgets, financial tracking systems, and internal controls
  • Complete monthly deferred-revenue and cost-settlement reconciliation analyses
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements and related analyses
  • Help write and maintain financial statement reports
  • Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations
  • Review grant expenditures against approved budgets
  • Analyze allocations and program costs and prepare necessary adjustments
  • Complete budget-to-actual variance analyses
  • Prepare and post monthly journal and allocation entries
  • Maintain accounting records and accounting policies and procedures
  • Apply GAAP requirements to financial statements
  • Record financial data for analysis
  • Support the Controller and CFO with financial documents and interpretation
  • Provide guidance on financial procedures and management
  • Develop procedures that improve operational efficiency
  • Contribute to annual budget preparation and monitor spending against approved guidelines
  • Support audit and tax activities
  • Assist with account balance reviews and bank statement reconciliations
  • Manage the general ledger and support month-end and year-end close
  • Maintain compliance with internal processes, policies, and procedures
  • Assist the Controller and CFO with special projects and workflow improvements
  • Complete additional duties as assigned
  • Represent ABH and its services professionally while following established best practices, guidelines, policies, and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • At least three years of nonprofit accounting experience
  • At least three years of grant reporting experience
  • At least five years of prior accounting experience
  • Experience with Business Central and CORE is a plus
  • Attend annual conflict-of-interest training
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain account balances, financial statements, general ledger records, and reports
  • Advanced technical skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook, plus internet use
  • Proficiency with accounting software
  • Experience with report-writing software and databases is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, report writing, and GAAP
  • Ability to analyze financial records and explain findings to other departments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting, carrying, or moving 10–20 pounds
  • Reliable and consistent attendance
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations
