Senior General Counsel, Renewable Energy

Lead legal strategy for Blue Sky Utility and Nofar USA, a renewable energy developer and operator. Oversee project finance, M&A, power purchase agreements, regulatory matters, and the legal team.

Description

  • Lead the in-house legal function and act as the company’s senior legal authority
  • Manage and mentor the Senior Counsel
  • Coordinate with outside counsel when needed
  • Independently handle complex M&A, project and corporate financing, power purchase and offtake agreements, and related regulatory matters
  • Draft, negotiate, and advise on major agreements and transactions, including PPAs, EPCs, interconnection agreements, project financings, M&A, and joint ventures
  • Act as the senior escalation contact for legal questions from the team
  • Take on a substantial share of the Senior Counsel’s existing workload
  • Develop and maintain legal processes, templates, and playbooks
  • Oversee outside counsel relationships and budgets for specialized, high-stakes matters
  • Advise executive and cross-functional teams on regulatory strategy

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active Florida Bar license, or active admission in another U.S. jurisdiction with eligibility to become licensed as authorized house counsel in Florida
  • At least 10 years of renewable energy law experience
  • Previous in-house experience with an independent power producer, developer, or utility
  • Law firm experience alone does not meet the role’s requirements
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex M&A, project development, project finance, corporate finance, and offtake transactions from term sheet to closing
  • Substantial renewables experience in project finance, tax equity, and/or M&A
  • Strong command of state utility regulatory frameworks
  • Experience drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex transaction and project agreements
  • Experience leading project finance, tax equity, secured finance, and other structured financing matters
  • Capital markets transaction experience and familiarity with ongoing securities law compliance and reporting are preferred, but not required
