Senior Financial Controller, Southeast Asia – Medtronic

Lead regional controllership for Medtronic’s Southeast Asia operations from the onsite Petaling Jaya, Malaysia location. Oversee reporting, controls, audits, tax compliance, and finance teams.

Description

  • Manage financial close and reporting under US GAAP and applicable statutory standards
  • Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations and attest related controls
  • Coordinate statutory and regulatory reporting, audits, and tax filings
  • Lead accounting services across value streams with shared services and BPO support
  • Oversee entity banking, funding, and foreign exchange activities with Treasury
  • Manage corporate, indirect, and transfer pricing tax compliance with Tax teams
  • Oversee credit and collections activities with Credit teams
  • Own finance policies and the internal control environment
  • Implement and manage SOX control frameworks and required deliverables
  • Provide fiduciary oversight for covered legal entities in support of local boards
  • Safeguard company assets through appropriate financial oversight
  • Lead responses to internal audit findings and corrective actions
  • Advise country initiatives on accounting and tax compliance matters
  • Support global finance initiatives, including adoption of new accounting standards
  • Drive process improvements and best practices across accounting value streams
  • Contribute to cross-functional efforts that strengthen the control environment
  • Identify opportunities to improve working capital and free cash flow
  • Assess controllership, financial, and tax risks through planning and legal or compliance reviews
  • Lead and develop a strong, inclusive regional finance team
  • Promote inclusion, diversity, equity, and ethical business practices

Requirements

  • University degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
  • Professional accounting qualification such as CA, CPA, ACCA, or CIMA
  • At least 12 years of progressive experience with multinational companies
  • At least 5 years of experience across Southeast Asian countries, excluding Singapore and Malaysia
  • Preferably 3–5 years of people management experience
  • Extensive knowledge of financial and management accounting
  • Experience with US GAAP and/or IFRS
  • Deep knowledge of applicable financial reporting standards and company, tax, and audit regulations
  • Practical experience with direct and indirect tax, transfer pricing, statutory auditors, and regulatory agencies
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, collaboration, and presentation abilities
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting skills
  • Demonstrated capability in people development and team leadership
  • Preferably strong SAP FI experience with broad process knowledge across R2R, P2P, EE, OTC, fixed assets, and inventory or intercompany accounting
  • Experience implementing and improving internal and SOX control frameworks
  • Demonstrated process improvement experience and ability to establish operational best practices
  • Ability to partner with sales and commercial teams on accounts receivable, DSO, credit risk, and collections
  • Strong business partnership skills with sound accounting and compliance judgment
  • Working knowledge of SAP BW reporting and data automation
  • Certifications in project management, process improvement, or change management
  • Proactive communication and collaboration with regional and local stakeholders
  • Ability to lead change and apply situational leadership
  • Strong critical thinking and professional skepticism
  • Process expertise combined with a solution-oriented approach
  • Experience leading teams and developing team capability
