Senior Database Engineer III - Oracle SQL/PLSQL, Maryland Remote

Senior database engineer developing and operating Oracle data systems for eSimplicity’s federal healthcare services. The role covers financial data validation, batch processing, reporting, and cloud modernization.

Description

  • Operate and optimize database processing for a mission-critical financial system serving the Federal Government healthcare domain
  • Manage recurring data validation and reporting workflows, delivering accurate results on schedule
  • Develop and maintain Oracle PL/SQL packages and procedures
  • Ingest and validate high-volume XML and EDI files
  • Load staging and fact tables
  • Generate outbound data files
  • Reconcile outputs across connected systems
  • Convert ad hoc client data requests into accurate, documented queries and extracts
  • Investigate and communicate data results and discrepancies
  • Optimize queries against very large partitioned tables
  • Troubleshoot and recover failed batch jobs
  • Automate manual spreadsheet-based activities into repeatable processes
  • Move changes through formal releases with documented testing, security review, and approval gates
  • Support approved changes in production
  • Document solutions for ongoing operational use
  • Coach junior developers
  • Help modernize reporting workloads on cloud data platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • At least five years developing and supporting production Oracle database applications
  • Three or more years working with data warehousing, financial transaction processing, or regulatory reporting
  • Advanced Oracle SQL and PL/SQL skills, including packages, procedures, cursors, collections, BULK COLLECT/FORALL, dynamic SQL, exception handling, and job or error instrumentation
  • Experience tuning query performance through execution plans, indexing, partitioned tables, and datasets containing hundreds of millions of rows
  • Experience parsing and loading structured files within the database using XMLTYPE/XMLTABLE, delimited or fixed-width formats, SQL*Loader, and external tables
  • Working knowledge of healthcare or financial EDI exchanges, including X12 834, 810, 820, 835, 824, or comparable standards
  • Experience with enterprise batch scheduling platforms such as IBM Workload Scheduler/TWS, Control-M, Autosys, or similar tools
  • Linux shell scripting experience
  • Python experience for data automation and report generation
  • Experience with Git-based version control
  • Familiarity with AWS, especially Oracle RDS and S3
  • Experience working with agile methods, including SAFe and Scrum
  • Working knowledge of DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD, formal release management, and change control supported by documented test evidence
  • Ability to manage sensitive healthcare and financial information under federal security controls, including least-privilege access and restrictions on unauthorized data movement or storage
  • Ability to optimize processing reliability within fixed, time-limited production windows
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain data discrepancies to nontechnical business leaders and government stakeholders
  • Availability during Eastern Time business hours, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM ET, unless the manager directs otherwise
