Senior Controls Engineer (PLC) - Minnesota, Remote

Lead PLC, process-control, and plant equipment projects for Land O'Lakes feed manufacturing operations. Drive process improvements, commissioning, and project implementation across multiple manufacturing facilities.

Description

  • Lead the design, installation, and start-up of process control, network, electrical, plant construction, and process equipment projects
  • Support Feed Manufacturing Operations and other business units across multiple manufacturing plants
  • Define project scopes and advance process improvements with the Region Director of Manufacturing, International Business Teams, and Plant Managers
  • Complete project and process design activities
  • Prepare capital and operating expense estimates
  • Select project contractors
  • Specify and procure equipment
  • Create implementation timelines and coordinate execution plans
  • Recommend methods and standard operating procedures that support safe control, process optimization, and product specifications
  • Manage PLC equipment and related processes
  • Work with plant operators on the manufacturing floor
  • Commission, install, and implement projects, including assignments lasting up to three weeks
  • Train personnel and improve operations across all shifts

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in engineering, concentrated in mechanical, agricultural, food, industrial, feed process engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience
  • Technical processing expertise in animal feed, food, or a related industry
  • Working knowledge of mechanical or agricultural engineering, processing plants, and plant equipment
  • Experience developing and refining process equipment projects and managing construction projects
  • Knowledge of grain or food processing systems
  • Experience in project management and process improvement
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and cost initiatives
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe/Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and SKM
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with plant operators and understand equipment variables and operating conditions
  • Ability to identify root causes and develop evidence-based solutions
  • Ability to travel 50% to 75%, including weekends, and work around all shifts
  • Two years of commissioning, reliability, or maintenance experience preferred
  • Plant design experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of food or animal feed processing plants and technology preferred
  • Experience coding and implementing Allen-Bradley PLCs, including ControlLogix, CompactLogix, and MicroLogix, and HMIs using FactoryTalk View ME/SE preferred
  • Experience configuring Allen-Bradley VFDs and SMC soft starters preferred
  • Basic Cisco switch configuration and troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Experience creating and maintaining process control and electrical documentation preferred
  • Ability to work in manufacturing facilities with typical dust and noise levels
