Senior Associate Counsel, Brazil Payments

Advise Visa’s Brazilian and LAC teams on payments regulation, commercial agreements, compliance, and disputes. The role combines strategic legal support with technology transactions and cross-functional partnership.

Description

  • Advise Visa account executives and internal clients on Brazil’s payment system.
  • Provide legal guidance on regulations affecting the payments industry.
  • Track regulatory changes and advise business teams on their impact and required adjustments.
  • Develop, assess, and negotiate strategic agreements with clients, consultants, sponsors, promotional partners, and vendors.
  • Create and update contract templates to make contracting more efficient.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate complex technology, procurement, service delivery, benchmarking, and other agreements.
  • Advise LAC business lines and management on client relationships, business development, regulatory matters, and new products and services.
  • Oversee compliance with company policies, industry standards, and licensing obligations.
  • Create and implement internal rules and policies that support regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with Visa’s legal team and external counsel on local litigation and antitrust, privacy, and intellectual property matters.
  • Build collaborative working relationships across Visa’s functional teams.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree and strong academic record.
  • Licensed to practice law in Brazil and in good standing with the Brazilian Bar Association.
  • Eight to ten years of experience at a leading national law firm and/or, preferably, a global corporation.
  • Knowledge of payment services and related processing industries is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of banking and financial institution laws and regulations is an advantage.
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Portuguese; Spanish is an advantage.
  • Ability to evaluate legal and business considerations, identify legal risks, and prioritize responses.
  • Responsive approach and a strong sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate with people at all organizational levels, including senior management.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial transactions.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and writing skills.
  • Commitment to high ethical and personal standards.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multinational environment.
