Remote Staff Accountant - MediaNews Group

MediaNews Group is hiring a remote Staff Accountant to support financial reporting, variance analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and financial modeling across its business.

Description

  • Review revenue and expense accounts and produce variance reports
  • Maintain financial reporting across business functions
  • Support weekly projections and annual budget preparation
  • Gather, monitor, and evaluate financial data related to revenue, expenses, and strategic priorities
  • Build financial models to support business decisions
  • Evaluate results, track variances, identify trends, and advise management on actions
  • Assist with weekly Flash reporting and annual budgeting
  • Compare actual performance with plans and forecasts to assess financial position
  • Prepare trend analyses and forecasts
  • Build automated reporting and forecasting tools
  • Develop and maintain working relationships across divisions
  • Use Oracle SmartView and Oracle Cloud EPM for financial reporting
  • Prepare forecasts and financial models

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics
  • At least two years of directly relevant experience
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including financial model building
  • Ability to streamline business functions
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency, including XLOOKUP, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, IF, IFS, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, and dynamic cell linking
  • Strong experience with financial modeling
  • Thorough knowledge of financial processes, systems, and controls
  • Experience documenting processes
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Residence in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, or Texas
  • Willingness to complete and pass a full pre-employment background check
  • Ability to travel 10–25% to Denver
