Remote Project Accountant in the United States

Support project financial analysis, reporting, billing, and revenue recognition for Michael Baker International’s engineering and consulting work. This full-time remote position prefers candidates in the Eastern or Central Time Zones.

Description

  • Provide end-to-end project accounting support for Project Managers.
  • Analyze project finances to track performance and assess project health.
  • Escalate emerging financial or performance issues to the Regional Project Accounting Manager.
  • Coordinate project setup in line with contract requirements and approval policies.
  • Review contracts for scope, billing obligations, project classification, and invoicing terms.
  • Maintain project records in Oracle, including budgets, funding changes, and project details.
  • Produce monthly project reports with commentary on performance, unbilled revenue, and unearned revenue.
  • Contribute financial analysis and recommendations during project performance reviews.
  • Assist with proposal pricing, budgeting, audits, financial reporting, and special assignments.
  • Track accounts receivable and help Project Managers pursue outstanding collections.
  • Investigate invoicing problems and help create corrective plans to improve payment speed.
  • Assist with project revenue recognition under company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline is required.
  • 0–3 years of experience in accounting, finance, project accounting, or a comparable role.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration across project teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment.
  • A master’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • CPA, CMA, or another relevant professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audits is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Project Accounting or a similar ERP platform is preferred.
  • Experience in engineering, consulting, professional services, or another project-based organization is preferred.
  • Pre-employment substance abuse testing and background checks are required by Michael Baker International.
