Regional Civil Engineer - North Carolina Hybrid

Lead civil engineering and construction delivery for wetland, riparian, and habitat restoration projects across North Carolina. Ducks Unlimited is seeking an engineer to oversee design, field operations, contracts, budgets, and conservation project partners.

Description

  • Plan, design, contract, and manage construction for wetland, riparian, and related habitat restoration projects
  • Supervise engineering personnel and manage assigned programs
  • Support the development of project budgets
  • Deliver engineering instruction and technical guidance
  • Maintain quality control for engineering services and applicable standards
  • Develop proposal scopes, work plans, and budgets in partnership with biological staff
  • Use engineering, surveying, and construction management expertise across conservation projects
  • Produce engineering designs and supporting reports
  • Develop project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates
  • Participate in project meetings
  • Perform field inspections and oversee construction activities
  • Monitor consultants and contractors for compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules
  • Serve as contracting officer, verify contract compliance, and manage project budgets
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies, private landowners, and conservation partners
  • Provide field support when needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from an EAC/ABET-accredited engineering program
  • Current registration as a civil engineer is required
  • Obtain registration reciprocity in the assigned states
  • Experience with Civil 3D, hydrology, hydraulics, structural and pump station design, erosion control, and construction inspection or management is preferred
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-directed and results-focused
  • Able to solve problems and collaborate effectively in close-knit teams
  • Based in eastern North Carolina, preferably near Washington, North Carolina
  • Available for occasional travel
  • Able to operate an ATV, outboard motor, and boat when required
  • Able to perform demanding outdoor fieldwork in challenging environmental conditions
  • Submit a cover letter, résumé, and references
