Project Accountant II - Michael Baker International Remote

Manage full-cycle project accounting for Michael Baker International’s remote engineering and consulting work. Analyze project performance, revenue recognition, contracts, budgets, billing, and receivables.

Description

  • Deliver full-cycle project accounting support to Project Managers.
  • Evaluate project financial performance and report project health, risks, and opportunities.
  • Flag emerging project performance concerns and communicate them to the Regional Project Accounting Manager.
  • Coordinate project setup to meet contract requirements and internal approval policies.
  • Review contracts to understand scope, billing terms, funding needs, and project structures.
  • Maintain project records in Oracle and update project funding and budgets.
  • Prepare monthly project reports with detailed commentary on unbilled and unearned revenue.
  • Join project performance reviews and provide financial guidance to project teams.
  • Provide Project and Department Managers with financial data, proposal support, pricing analysis, budgeting, audit assistance, and special-project support.
  • Track outstanding receivables and collaborate with Project Managers on collection activities.
  • Help resolve invoicing problems and develop corrective actions to improve payment timing.
  • Apply company policies and accounting standards to project revenue recognition.
  • Support project financial reviews, including cost-to-complete estimates and revenue recognition assessments.
  • Take ownership of ongoing project accounting and provide full-cycle financial oversight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Three to five years of experience in accounting, finance, project accounting, or a comparable role.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration with Project Managers and business leaders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A master’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
  • CPA, CMA, or another relevant professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience supporting internal or external audits is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Project Accounting modules or a comparable ERP system is preferred.
  • Experience supporting project-based, engineering, consulting, or professional services organizations is preferred.
