Product Engineering Coordinator

Coordinate the design and launch of manufacturable workplace products at Tayco. The role spans concept development, prototyping, testing, technical documentation, supplier coordination, and collaboration across engineering teams.

Description

  • Develop engineering solutions for product direction, manufacturing improvements, customer quality claims, and installation challenges.
  • Apply advances in manufacturing methods and materials, taking supplier capabilities into account.
  • Refine concepts through modeling, prototyping, testing, and analysis to improve function, appearance, and manufacturability.
  • Create precise, detailed layouts for parts and assemblies.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to respond to market needs and customer expectations.
  • Partner with cross-functional project teams to resolve product performance, manufacturability, compatibility, testing, and installation challenges.
  • Prepare technical records, including part and assembly drawings and specification sheets, in the shared database and in line with Tayco’s ISO procedures.
  • Interpret relevant testing requirements and support compliance with BIFMA, CGSB, UL, CSA, UBC, and IBC standards.
  • Arrange fabrication of prototypes and pre-production products for design refinement, testing, showroom use, and training.
  • Support cost analysis, quote collection, material-use reviews, and value engineering.
  • Design custom products to internal and industry standards.
  • Coordinate with external suppliers to source components and fabrication options.
  • Review designs, drawings, manufacturing methods, production capability, efficiency, and quality plans.
  • Supply the documentation and information needed to move products into full production.
  • Help develop processes and tools that strengthen product development.
  • Provide engineering guidance to other departments and assist with claims and warranty matters.
  • Keep current with industry trends, standards, manufacturing methods, materials, technology, competing products, engineering practices, environmental concerns, and sustainable design.
  • Plan for quality to achieve zero defects at product launch.

Requirements

  • A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • A Professional Engineering licence or equivalent qualification is required.
  • Five to seven years of engineering experience in product design and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of designing for multiple manufacturing processes and materials, including sheet metal, plastic, glass, and wood.
  • Project and time management skills, including the ability to manage several projects.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Skilled in 3D modeling and detailed design with SolidWorks or another parametric modeling program.
  • Familiarity with ANSI/BIFMA standards.
  • SolidWorks PDM experience is preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems for engineering and manufacturing is preferred.
  • Practical experience building prototypes and models.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work both independently with minimal supervision and as part of diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
