Principal Structural Engineer, Data Center Infrastructure — Remote Texas

Lead structural engineering for Jabil’s modular data center infrastructure, from analysis and BIM coordination through manufacturing and field deployment. Own technical risk, code compliance, and scalable structural solutions across complex equipment and facility systems.

Description

  • Assess structural concepts against technical risk, cost, schedule, robustness, constructability, and delivery goals.
  • Lead gravity, wind, seismic, and vibration analyses for modules, frames, racks, and support structures.
  • Develop and recommend structural designs for MDCs, equipment skids, enclosures, and factory-built assemblies.
  • Validate HAC structural configurations for overhead, rack-integrated, and floor-supported systems.
  • Design seismic bracing and restraints for MEP systems, cable trays, pipe racks, and modular assemblies.
  • Engineer foundations, steel framing, and anchorage for chillers, generators, UPS units, pumps, heat exchangers, and fluid distribution equipment.
  • Establish structural approaches for thermal loads, vibration-sensitive equipment, and deflection-controlled assemblies.
  • Maintain DFMEA records and reduce structural risks across product families.
  • Improve repeatable product families for weight, manufacturability, cost, and platform scalability.
  • Support structural design for manufacturing facilities, including floor loads, equipment pads, crane rails, mezzanines, dock systems, and material handling infrastructure.
  • Assess the structural impact of factory reconfigurations, equipment installations, and capacity expansions.
  • Partner with facility planning and operations teams to define structural needs for production areas.
  • Support factory integration by addressing load paths, transportation loads, and installation limitations.
  • Create DFMA templates and modularization approaches that improve design repeatability.
  • Define and verify requirements for transportation, lifting, placement, shipping, and logistics.
  • Coordinate with BIM and Revit teams to maintain integrated, current, clash-free structural models.
  • Join multidisciplinary reviews and resolve clearances, anchorage zones, and maintenance access requirements.
  • Review coordination drawings and uphold model quality and LOD requirements under the BIM Execution Plan.
  • Work with fabrication shops and factory teams to make designs buildable, manufacturable, and ready for installation.
  • Review shop drawings, fabrication details, welds, connections, and material specifications.
  • Confirm lifting, rigging, transportation, and shipping load cases, including temporary bracing requirements.
  • Support factory builds, FATs, and field installations while resolving RFIs, NCRs, and production deviations.
  • Prepare and review calculations, drawings, specifications, and stamped engineering packages.
  • Coordinate third-party engineering firms and authority having jurisdiction approvals.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable codes, seismic standards, customer specifications, and certification routes.
  • Help establish design standards, platform templates, best practices, and lessons-learned materials.
  • Mentor junior engineers, lead technical reviews, and act as a senior escalation resource.
