Principal Mission Architect, Space Force Missions (Hybrid)

Lead the development of cost-effective low Earth orbit satellite mission architectures for Muon Space. Own mission concepts, requirements, analysis, spacecraft design, and constellation evaluation while guiding engineers and collaborating with customers and scientists.

Description

  • Develop complete mission concepts that address customer needs
  • Conduct mission-level analysis and manage top-level mission budgets
  • Define mission requirements and design solutions for diverse payloads
  • Use engineering software and code to evaluate trade studies and resolve system design questions
  • Assess spacecraft and payload design trade-offs, key metrics, and collaboration with the instrument design team
  • Evaluate spacecraft performance and constellation configurations
  • Partner with discipline engineers and scientists to ensure mission objectives are met
  • Engage customers to clarify and address their underlying needs
  • Lead engineers in developing practical, cost-effective solutions
  • Create practical, cost-effective space missions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a related engineering discipline and 12 years of experience working on space missions; relevant advanced degrees count as two years of experience each.
  • Professional experience in spacecraft design
  • Professional experience in space mission design
  • Programming proficiency in one or more of Python, Julia, MATLAB, C, or C++
  • Ability to travel to the Mountain View facility for in-person meetings, build activities, and testing
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • Experience developing, delivering, or sustaining a space-based capability supporting a core Space Force mission, such as ALTPNT, MWTD, or BMC3I
  • Experience supporting science teams in mission development
  • Experience designing satellite constellations
  • Experience with spacecraft or constellation operations
  • Must satisfy applicable ITAR/EAR export-control eligibility requirements, including U.S. person status, eligibility without export authorization, or a reasonable likelihood of obtaining authorization
