Principal Fire Protection Engineer – Warrington (Hybrid)

Amentum is seeking a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to support the UK nuclear fleet and small modular reactor programmes. The role covers fire detection, suppression, and passive protection design across nuclear projects.

Description

  • Plan and deliver complex fire protection engineering assignments independently
  • Design fire detection, alarm, firefighting, and suppression systems in line with applicable codes, standards, and regulations
  • Prepare, coordinate, and review calculations, design inputs, layouts, specifications, design-basis documents, system narratives, cause-and-effect records, assessments, reports, work plans, and technical correspondence
  • Address routine and complex technical issues within assigned areas
  • Recognise issues requiring escalation to the discipline manager, regulatory support function, or designated authority
  • Manage technical interfaces with internal teams, clients, fire safety stakeholders, and other disciplines
  • Present technical matters, clarify assumptions, record decisions, and help resolve review comments
  • Deliver passive fire protection work covering compartmentation, fire dampers, fire doors, and fire stopping
  • Support UK nuclear fleet programmes spanning New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, as well as emerging small modular reactor developers

Requirements

  • Professional experience in fire protection engineering, ideally across most of the responsibilities described
  • Practical experience applying relevant prescriptive codes
  • STEM degree qualification is desirable but not essential
  • Membership of a recognised professional body, such as the Institution of Fire Engineers, is desirable but not essential
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes is desirable but not essential
  • Capacity to independently plan and deliver complex fire protection assignments
  • Ability to produce, coordinate, and review technical deliverables
  • Ability to solve routine and complex technical problems and escalate issues appropriately
  • Ability to lead technical coordination with stakeholders, clients, fire safety specialists, and other disciplines
  • Ability to advise on passive fire protection, including compartmentation, fire dampers, fire doors, and fire stopping, is desirable but not essential
