Principal Electrical Engineering Specialist

Lead electrical reliability and maintenance support for Air Products’ industrial facilities across North America. The role focuses on high-voltage systems, equipment troubleshooting, protective relays, plant upgrades, and technician development.

Description

  • Support dependable operation of industrial electrical equipment across company-owned facilities in North America
  • Provide field personnel with technical guidance on high-voltage distribution equipment and high-voltage motors and generators
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment issues at company-owned facilities and provide appropriate technical support
  • Oversee vendor shop repairs for high-voltage motors and related equipment to maintain quality standards
  • Prepare repair reports following critical work for historical records
  • Develop engineered solutions to recurring electrical problems
  • Increase plant and equipment reliability through historical trend analysis and improved maintenance practices
  • Lead and contribute to root cause analysis investigations
  • Implement predictive and preventive maintenance strategies for electrical equipment
  • Apply internal and national standards when specifying and maintaining equipment
  • Review and approve engineering documentation for plant upgrade projects
  • Train, coach, and mentor electrical field technicians and operations personnel in the safe operation and preventive maintenance of electrical distribution systems
  • Maintain full compliance with safety and environmental requirements
  • Program protective relays using settings created in systems analysis software
  • Report to the Manager of Electrical Engineering at Air Products’ global headquarters in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Requirements

  • Prior experience operating and maintaining large industrial plants is required
  • Demonstrated ability to program protective relays and consolidate event data from those devices is required
  • Experience with SEL and GE Multilin protective relays
  • Familiarity with SKM Power Tools for Windows engineering software is helpful
  • Experience with software modeling platforms such as ETAP will be considered
  • Ability to prepare safe work permits and high-voltage lockout/tagout orders is required
  • Experience specifying, reviewing, and approving high-voltage substation equipment, transformers, high- and low-voltage motors and generators, motor control centers, variable-frequency drives, station batteries, and UPS systems is helpful
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% within North America
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent professional experience
  • Six to eight years of experience as a qualified electrical worker in an industrial facility
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship, including a temporary work visa or work permit
