Power Systems Engineer III – Bolton (Onsite)

Qualus is seeking a Power Systems Engineer III to perform power system studies, electrical testing, field data collection, and engineering design work. The role also involves customer reporting, technical presentations, project coordination, and support for medium- to large-scale projects.

Description

  • Revise client electrical drawings, including one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and schematics, with AutoCAD or Bluebeam PDF Markups
  • Gather field data and conduct arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using SKM, ETAP, and/or EasyPower
  • Complete additional studies and services covering load flow, harmonics, grounding, motor starting, buried cable heat rise, infrared scanning, and LOTO creation
  • Use knowledge of low- and medium-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, circuit breakers, panel boards, and disconnects to identify cost-effective mitigation options
  • Create relay protection setpoints and settings files
  • Design and/or implement arc flash mitigation measures
  • Prepare study reports and explain findings and recommendations to customers
  • Assist field service teams with electrical testing assignments
  • Help the supervisor plan workloads, forecast engineering needs, and schedule training
  • Present study results to customers and respond to their questions
  • Follow company, industry, client, and safety requirements and standards
  • Evaluate project resource requirements and coordinate assignments with project managers
  • Develop the ability to manage projects through completion in accordance with company procedures
  • Track project expenses against budgets and recommend cost reductions
  • Coordinate project transitions between sales and operations or engineering
  • Take part in kickoff meetings addressing scope, specifications, budgets, schedules, and safety requirements
  • Coordinate work with other departments
  • Deliver medium- to large-sized projects with limited supervision
  • Maintain accurate, timely project invoicing and submit required documentation, including SAFs, weekly time records, change orders, test reports, and other deliverables
  • Keep required project records and documentation current

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or certification as an Electrical Engineering Technologist
  • At least three years of power systems engineering experience or directly related electrical experience
  • Clear communication skills for working with internal teams, clients, and regulatory contacts
  • Ability to maintain productivity in a changing work environment
  • Knowledge of CEC/OESC, Z462, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with at least one power engineering study platform, such as SKM/PTW, ETAP, EasyPower, or an equivalent
  • Willingness to learn and use client-provided programs and systems
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions and resolve issues involving several concrete variables
  • Ability to perform electrical power calculations
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and recognize urgent matters
  • Ability to create project plans, order resources and materials, lead kickoff meetings, and identify scope changes
  • Ability to review information, facts, and data and reach logical conclusions
  • Ability to work under pressure while handling multiple project assignments

  • Willingness to travel 30% of the time
