People Systems Engineer (India, Remote)

Build AI-assisted automations and integrations across Workday, Slack, and Greenhouse for GitLab’s global People operations. Improve workflows through reliable integrations, thoughtful system design, and maintainable automation.

Description

  • Design and maintain People system automations and integrations across Workato, Google Cloud Platform, Claude, Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, and GitLab.
  • Create connections between Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, and internal tools using Workday Web Services, the Slack API, and Bot SDK.
  • Develop Slack apps and bots to automate manual tasks.
  • Write documented automation code under version control in Ruby or a similar scripting language.
  • Track integration health, investigate failures, and address their underlying causes.
  • Release updates through GitLab CI/CD, following testing, change management, and SOX ITGC standards.
  • Apply AI tools, LLMs, Claude, and MCP frameworks to prototype agents and improve People workflows.
  • Advise on durable, scalable, maintainable solutions while working with People Technology Analysts, Information Security, IT, and AI Engineering.
  • Strengthen automation architecture, documentation, and upkeep practices.

Requirements

  • Practical experience building automations or integrations, preferably for HR or business systems.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Ruby or similar scripting-language code, such as Python or JavaScript, and readiness to learn Ruby.
  • Production experience with Workato or a similar integration platform as a service (iPaaS).
  • Experience working with APIs and web services, including REST and SOAP.
  • Proficiency with Git for version control and code review.
  • Regular use of AI tools to automate tasks, accelerate development, and improve processes.
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems, collaborate openly, handle highly confidential information, and take responsibility for code quality and reliable results.
  • Relevant experience may also include Workday integrations, Slack apps or bots, CI/CD, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services, Docker or Kubernetes, LLMs, AI agents, MCP frameworks, SOX ITGC controls, Greenhouse, Serval, Google Workspace, or asynchronous work in an all-remote environment.
  • A related computing degree or equivalent experience is welcome, but not required.
