Part-Time Hybrid Communication Assistant in Pomona

Part-time communications role supporting campaigns, publications, public relations, and digital content for ASI at Cal Poly Pomona. Responsibilities include writing, editing, media reporting, marketing analysis, interviews, and campus communications support.

Description

  • Work under the general direction of Communications and receive additional assignments from the Communication Supervisor
  • Create copy for campaigns, press releases, video scripts, radio advertisements, flyers, brochures, articles, newsletters, annual reports, client projects, and other publications
  • Proofread and edit communications and prepress materials for errors and inconsistencies in style
  • Measure and document results from blog and email marketing initiatives
  • Share information supplied by ASI departments and the campus community
  • Promote services, programs, and events through informative and lifestyle-focused print and digital stories
  • Annotate revisions accurately and verify the correctness of typeset materials
  • Conduct fact-checking for communications content
  • Apply and help uphold the ASI Writing Style Guide
  • Develop articles about marketing events
  • Suggest story concepts and interview relevant sources
  • Help assemble local media coverage reports and media clips
  • Support presentations on communications and public relations activities
  • Help develop and execute campaign strategies
  • Investigate public relations opportunities involving campus collaborations, community partnerships, and influencers
  • Provide general administrative assistance

Requirements

  • At least three months of customer service experience
  • At least three months of copyediting and copywriting experience
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Interest in learning about marketing, advertising, and corporate communications
  • Ability to follow standard verbal and written instructions
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional workplace conduct
  • Capacity to make independent decisions and recommendations
  • Ability to complete a background check, including a criminal records check
  • Must be a Cal Poly Pomona student eligible and legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be enrolled in the required minimum number of units
  • Minimum 2.0 cumulative and Cal Poly Pomona GPA with good academic standing
  • Must not be enrolled exclusively through Extended University
  • Must sign an acknowledgment of mandated reporter status and the legal duty to report child abuse and neglect
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, and lift up to 45 pounds
