NETA Field Service Technician - San Antonio, TX

Conduct electrical testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning for Shermco Industries at industrial and commercial customer sites throughout the San Antonio region.

Description

  • Provide testing, maintenance, and repair for electrical distribution systems and related equipment
  • Travel to industrial and commercial customer locations
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, commission, and document low-, medium-, and high-voltage systems ranging from 480 volts to 600 kV
  • Test instrument transformers
  • Evaluate power transformers using Doble, TTR, insulation-resistance, and related testing methods
  • Test electromechanical and solid-state relays
  • Perform cable testing with Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot methods
  • Diagnose automatic transfer switch issues
  • Test low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
  • Complete moderately complex relay calibration and power-metering work
  • Participate in emergency on-call rotations and respond promptly to customer emergencies
  • Collaborate with professional teams to deliver safe, efficient, high-quality work

Requirements

  • Drive locally and regionally each day and remain available for occasional overnight travel
  • An Associate’s degree in Electrical Power & Controls from an accredited two-year technical college, an ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree, or comparable military experience and training is preferred
  • NETA Level I, II, III, or IV certification, or an equivalent credential, is preferred
  • At least two years of relevant switchgear testing and troubleshooting experience
  • Proficiency with email, internet tools, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience is a plus
  • Follow electrical safety procedures and consistently work safely
  • OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR, First Aid, BBP, and AED training is preferred
  • Remain drug-free and pass pre-employment hair-follicle and periodic unannounced random drug tests
  • Pass an acceptable pre-employment criminal background check
  • Be able to crawl, climb, stand, walk, and lift up to 75 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation, and pass a fit-for-duty physical examination
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record
  • Work flexible schedules, overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
  • Not require current or future sponsorship to work in the United States
  • Read, write, and speak English fluently
  • Be willing to travel at least 40% of the time
  • Accept that employment offers depend on satisfactory background-check and drug-and-alcohol-screening results
