Management Accountant – Australia Focus, Remote in India

Manage finance for an Australian MSP and IT services business, covering cash flow, budgeting, reporting and tax compliance. Assess profitability across customers, contracts and service lines.

Description

  • Own financial planning, management reporting, cash-flow oversight, budgeting and financial controls
  • Build and maintain short-, long-term and rolling 13-week cash-flow forecasts
  • Track cash balances, customer collections, supplier payments, payroll and other significant cash movements
  • Anticipate funding needs and shortfalls, recommending ways to improve cash conversion and working capital
  • Lead annual budgets and recurring forecasting cycles
  • Produce revenue, expense, payroll and cash-flow budgets alongside monthly or quarterly forecasts
  • Evaluate actual results against budgets and forecasts, explaining material variances
  • Prepare monthly management accounts covering profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow
  • Create management dashboards and reports for key financial metrics
  • Assess revenue, gross margin, operating costs, profitability, trends, risks and opportunities
  • Present financial results and commercially relevant analysis to management
  • Measure profitability by customer, contract, project and service line across the MSP and IT services operation
  • Track recurring revenue, MRR, managed-service contracts, contract margins and customer billing
  • Evaluate labour utilisation and costs for employees, contractors, software, cloud, hardware and third-party suppliers
  • Assess project profitability and contribute to pricing decisions
  • Establish, implement and maintain financial policies and controls
  • Review payables, receivables, reconciliations, approvals, aged debt, revenue recognition and billing processes
  • Oversee GST treatment and support BAS, PAYG, payroll, superannuation, company tax, year-end accounts and audit or accountant requests
  • Coordinate with external accountants, tax advisers and other professional advisers
  • Monitor working capital, debtor ageing, collection results, supplier terms and customer credit exposure
  • Maintain and enhance finance processes and reporting systems
  • Advance reporting automation and integration across accounting, billing, payroll and operational systems
  • Improve financial data accuracy while reducing manual spreadsheets and repetitive work
  • Turn financial analysis into practical recommendations for business owners and senior management

Requirements

  • Prior experience as a Management Accountant, Commercial Accountant, Finance Manager or in a comparable role
  • Professional experience with an Australian business is required
  • Working knowledge of Australian accounting and tax obligations, including GST, BAS, PAYG, payroll, superannuation and company tax
  • Experience in an MSP or IT services environment is required
  • Demonstrated expertise in cash-flow forecasting
  • Strong budgeting and financial forecasting experience
  • Background preparing monthly management accounts and management reports
  • Strong financial controls and balance-sheet reconciliation experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel capability
  • Experience with Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or comparable accounting software
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance managers and business owners
  • Experience with recurring monthly contracts, managed-service agreements, professional services and project revenue, customer profitability, resource and labour utilisation, employee and contractor costs, software and cloud licensing, hardware procurement and resale, vendor and distributor costs, recurring billing, contract margins and gross-profit analysis
  • Experience with MSP or PSA platforms such as ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA or similar is highly valued
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related field preferred
  • CPA Australia, CA ANZ, CIMA or an equivalent qualification, or progress toward one, preferred
