Lean 4 Formal Mathematics Engineer

Write and review Lean 4 proofs for an AI lab, formalizing mathematics and assessing AI-generated theorem-proving work.

Description

  • Write idiomatic Lean 4 statements and proofs that compile with current mathlib.
  • Formalize mathematics from natural-language sources, including contest problems, textbook results, and research lemmas.
  • Review statements and proofs generated by AI systems.
  • Find failed proofs or proofs that establish an incorrect result, then provide clear written feedback.
  • Help create standards and rubrics for proof quality, statement fidelity, and mathlib conventions.
  • Work with Lean engineers and lab researchers to uphold consistent standards.
  • Contribute to projects that train and improve AI systems.

Requirements

  • Practical experience writing formal proofs in Lean 4.
  • Familiarity with mathlib and Lean 4 tactics, including locating and applying suitable lemmas.
  • A strong foundation in proof-based mathematics, theoretical computer science, or logic, demonstrated through a degree or research record.
  • Ability to translate written mathematical statements and proofs into correct formal statements and checked proofs.
  • Availability to work at least 20 hours per week on weekdays.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain proof strategies and formalization decisions precisely.
  • Preferred: experience with Coq/Rocq, Isabelle, Agda, Haskell, Lean metaprogramming, or AI for mathematics.
  • H1-B and STEM OPT candidates cannot be supported at this time.
