Lead Software Engineer, Backend Integrations - Hybrid, Czechia

Lead backend architecture and API development for Coupa’s AI-powered spend management platform. Guide integrations, reliability initiatives, and engineering mentorship.

Description

  • Own the architecture, development, and scaling of backend systems and APIs that connect the platform to its broader ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with Product, Integrations, Platform, and external partners to assess technical trade-offs and shape solutions.
  • Surface cross-team technical risks and improve backend processes and systems.
  • Apply data and observability insights to inform architecture, improve performance, and assess system impact.
  • Build and advance reliable, performant, and scalable backend architectures and APIs.
  • Raise code quality through reviews, design feedback, RFCs, and technical mentorship.
  • Direct the design and delivery of major backend integration projects.
  • Define shared engineering practices that help backend services scale dependably with customer usage.

Requirements

  • Experience as a backend engineer delivering production systems and distributed architectures.
  • A customer-focused approach and data-informed judgment when designing scalable APIs.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, coaching, and team growth through reviews and technical mentorship.
  • Proactive, empathetic problem-solving skills with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Demonstrated expertise in API design, production failure handling, and technical debt management.
