Lead Roadway Engineer - Ulteig - Colorado Remote

Lead roadway engineering for CDOT and local-agency transportation projects across Colorado. Oversee design, PS&E delivery, QA/QC, engineer mentorship, and client coordination.

Description

  • Lead roadway design delivery for Colorado transportation projects serving CDOT and local-agency clients
  • Act as roadway task lead on multidisciplinary teams from concept development through PS&E and construction support
  • Coordinate with project managers, clients, and technical disciplines throughout project delivery
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers
  • Review designs for quality and help resolve complex engineering challenges
  • Advance department standards and improve design workflows, tools, and delivery efficiency
  • Assess client technical needs and develop feasible solutions
  • Apply engineering methods, criteria, procedures, and professional judgment to assigned tasks
  • Compare design alternatives and recommend practical, cost-effective approaches
  • Apply value engineering throughout development, design, and construction
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and observation reports
  • Recommend updates to development criteria and design features
  • Review plans and specifications for constructability, safety, and risk
  • Lead roadway design QA/QC activities
  • Prepare project-direction and progress reports and correspondence
  • Partner with business and engineering teams across markets and disciplines
  • Contribute to marketing, sales, and business development efforts
  • Assign work, coordinate tasks, and maintain quality and accountability
  • Lead PS&E deliverables and support model development, plan production, and quantity development
  • Prepare and review roadway alignments, quantities, and cost estimates
  • Identify and resolve risks involving right-of-way, utilities, and scope gaps
  • Support scope development, schedule coordination, project management, and client interactions
  • Participate in client coordination and assist with proposals and business development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or an equivalent qualification is required
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required; Colorado licensure is preferred, or candidates must be able to obtain it within a reasonable timeframe
  • NCEES Council Record is considered a plus
  • Preferred experience includes 6–10+ years in civil engineering, with 4–5+ years focused on roadway design
  • Proven ability to lead roadway design tasks and contribute to multidisciplinary project delivery
  • Experience with geometric design, grading, phasing, and constructability
  • Advanced proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, including corridor modeling, plan production, and team production workflows
  • Experience delivering CDOT projects and understanding its standards, specifications, and workflows
  • Familiarity with CDOT design manuals and stakeholder coordination
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
  • Permanent authorization to work in the United States is required
  • Ability to complete complex assignments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing work, and meet scheduled delivery dates
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
  • Willingness to adopt emerging technology and AI tools to improve workflows, solve problems, and support continuous improvement
