Lead Java Software Engineer, Chennai

Lead the design, development, and delivery of Caterpillar’s cloud-based digital platforms in an onsite Chennai role. Build scalable Java applications and serverless solutions using AWS, CI/CD, and modern cloud technologies.

Description

  • Provide technical direction for designing, developing, and deploying Caterpillar’s digital platform
  • Advance cloud-based technology initiatives through ongoing development
  • Apply Java, cloud, and mobile or web application technologies to deliver solutions
  • Build and implement features with cloud platform products and services
  • Develop software within Agile team practices
  • Coordinate large software projects across multiple developers using Git branching, tagging, and merging
  • Develop, deploy, and troubleshoot cloud-based and serverless applications on AWS
  • Use AWS service APIs, the CLI, and SDKs to develop applications
  • Write, maintain, and troubleshoot AWS code modules
  • Integrate application security into initial designs and follow AWS security best practices
  • Use CI/CD pipelines and containers throughout the development lifecycle
  • Produce technical project documentation and estimate task effort

Requirements

  • Hold a four-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Bring at least 14 years of software development experience
  • Have 8 or more years of experience designing and developing Java applications at scale
  • Demonstrate strong Java and J2EE experience in cloud-based environments
  • Possess expert knowledge of JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, SQL, Spring, JUnit, JSON, and REST/JSON web services
  • Understand Java design patterns thoroughly
  • Have experience building and implementing features with cloud platform products and technologies
  • Preferably have experience developing applications in Agile team environments
  • Demonstrate strong object-oriented design skills and knowledge of MVC
  • Have sufficient Git experience to manage large projects with multiple developers, including branching, tagging, and merging
  • Experience with AWS or Azure cloud PaaS alongside Java is a plus
  • Demonstrate strong business application design capabilities
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with strong interpersonal skills
  • Possess strong debugging abilities
  • Be highly proficient with standard Java development tools, including Eclipse and Maven
  • Show a strong commitment to incorporating application security from the initial design
  • Have experience producing technical project documentation and task estimates
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of at least one high-level programming language
  • Understand core AWS services, their uses, and fundamental AWS architecture best practices
  • Be proficient in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications with AWS
  • Be able to use AWS service APIs, the AWS CLI, and SDKs to build applications
  • Be able to identify the key features of AWS services
  • Understand the AWS shared responsibility model
  • Understand application lifecycle management
  • Be able to use a CI/CD pipeline to deploy applications on AWS
  • Be able to use or interact with AWS services
  • Apply a basic understanding of cloud-native applications when writing code
  • Write code according to AWS security best practices, including IAM roles instead of embedded secrets and access keys
  • Be able to write, maintain, and troubleshoot code modules on AWS
  • Be proficient in developing serverless applications
  • Understand how containers are used in the development process
