Lead Java Backend Developer at Tecsys (Hybrid, Canada)
Lead Java Developer building backend systems for Tecsys’s AI-powered cloud supply-chain software. Mentor engineers while advancing platform performance, security, reliability, and AI adoption.
Description
- Build, develop, and deploy robust backend services with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices
- Review code and help shape technical designs
- Contribute to hands-on quality assurance and mentor fellow developers
- Turn complex business needs into scalable technical solutions with product and business teams
- Embed AI capabilities into delivered products and team workflows
- Help developers apply AI-assisted engineering methods
- Assess and adopt emerging technologies that strengthen the platform
- Champion engineering practices for performance, scalability, observability, and security
- Partner with DevOps and Operations to deliver maintainable, production-ready software
- Take part in Agile ceremonies and retrospectives
- Promote collaboration, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Help set technical direction and advance engineering practices
- Tecsys delivers AI-powered cloud software for healthcare and distribution supply chains
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience designing Java backend systems in production, including system design, development, testing, and operational support
- Deep knowledge of object-oriented design, microservices architecture, and RESTful services
- Strong hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Java 11 or later, JUnit, and Mockito
- Proficiency with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, plus Oracle and SQL Server
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases is an asset
- Experience using Git, Maven, and current development environments such as IntelliJ, Eclipse, or Visual Studio Code
- Experience incorporating AI tools such as Kiro, Claude, or comparable tools into daily development
- Capability to design and deliver scalable software within complex distributed systems
- Ability to mentor engineers, work with quality assurance, join code reviews, and build proofs of concept
- Strong business judgment and excellent communication skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline
- Fluent written and spoken English is required for communication with clients, vendors, business partners, and colleagues outside Quebec
