Judicial Assistant – Bennington, Vermont

Support State of Vermont court operations in Bennington through docket management, case processing, hearing administration, and customer service. Handle filings, calendars, fees, notices, and court records in an onsite full-time role.

Description

  • Deliver specialized customer service, clerical support, and data-entry services for docket matters within the court’s jurisdiction.
  • Manage case flow throughout the full case lifecycle, including docket updates and electronic and paper filing entry.
  • Issue notices and verify that case documents are accurate and complete.
  • Draft orders and motions, and schedule proceedings and other events on the court calendar.
  • Use systems and equipment that support both in-person and remote virtual hearings.
  • Handle hearing operations, including rapid docket entry and real-time case processing.
  • Apply standardized procedures with careful attention to detail and a consistent, methodical work style.
  • Answer customer questions about forms, court kiosks, appearances, and case information.
  • Provide timely, helpful information and assistance to court customers.
  • Collect fines and fees, then close, balance, and reconcile tills.
  • Maintain current knowledge of and comply with applicable court rules and statutes.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or an equivalent qualification.
  • Two years of clerical, secretarial, or data-entry experience.
  • College education may replace the required work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Previous legal-setting experience is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with office technology is preferred.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Strong administrative and clerical capabilities.
  • Ability to maintain precise records and communicate accurate information.
  • Effective communication skills, adaptability, and a collaborative approach.
  • Background in customer-facing work.
  • Positive, empathetic, and professional demeanor.
