Infrastructure Engineer, United Kingdom (Hybrid)
Join Wintermute as an Infrastructure Engineer supporting and automating physical and virtual infrastructure in a digital-asset trading environment. The role covers Cisco networking, Linux systems, hardware, and critical production operations.
Description
- Maintain, optimize, and scale a combined physical and virtual computing environment
- Lead the development and ongoing management of server and network infrastructure
- Deliver advanced technical support for infrastructure systems
- Create and implement Python-based automation solutions
- Work with senior engineers to scale and strengthen systems
- Maintain, diagnose, and enhance networks, routing protocols, and computing platforms
- Support critical production services and core back-office infrastructure operations
- Coordinate infrastructure deployments, major incidents, and maintenance windows, including out-of-hours support when needed
Requirements
- Take an effective, hands-on approach to issues spanning data-centre connectivity and hardware troubleshooting
- Understand data-centre connectivity, structured cabling, and TCP/IP networking, including IPv4, IPv6, and subnetting
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco switches, including Catalyst and Nexus platforms
- Have practical knowledge of server hardware, network appliances, and computer components
- Diagnose issues across Linux servers, enterprise applications, and network infrastructure
- Bring at least five years of experience in systems administration, network infrastructure engineering, or a related field
- Use Wireshark, tcpdump, or traceroute to investigate packet loss, latency, and network performance problems
- Analyse and resolve complex hardware faults, performance constraints, and component failures
- Be comfortable working with Git workflows
- Work collaboratively to support critical production services and core back-office infrastructure
- Use monitoring and performance-tuning tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or SNMP
- Communicate clearly and professionally in technical discussions, enquiries, and status updates
- Demonstrate strong organisation and careful attention to detail
- Be available for weekend and evening shifts and out-of-hours support when required
- Nice to have: experience deploying, configuring, and monitoring enterprise firewalls and ACLs
- Nice to have: knowledge of BGP, OSPF, or static routing
- Nice to have: familiarity with enterprise Linux server environments and automated deployment tools
- Nice to have: experience writing Python scripts for network administration, Cisco provisioning, and infrastructure automation
