Field Civil Engineer – Roadway Construction (Hybrid)

Lead roadway construction projects for Horrocks under the direction of a Resident Engineer. Coordinate design changes, contractors, contracts, personnel, budgets, and project delivery.

Description

  • Interpret roadway and trail designs and specifications across highways, freeways, interchanges, streets, intersections, and multiuse trails
  • Develop, substantiate, document, and coordinate change orders with the Resident Engineer
  • Lead roadway construction projects under the direction of a Resident Engineer
  • Coordinate with contractors on design issues, field revisions, quantity measurements, RFIs, schedules, and material certification submittals
  • Assist field inspectors in addressing unforeseen conditions
  • Support project managers with client relationships, stakeholder coordination, and sub-consultant oversight
  • Manage projects through completion while protecting quality, budget, and schedule
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support shared project outcomes
  • Work onsite during daytime, nighttime, and weekend construction activities
  • Earn certifications in construction engineering management
  • Track and administer construction contracts
  • Oversee personnel and project budgets

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering
  • Active EIT license required; a Professional Engineer license is advantageous
  • 0–2 years of transportation engineering experience
  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong knowledge of AASHTO roadway geometric design criteria
  • Proficiency with Autodesk and/or Bentley civil design software
  • Drainage design or traffic engineering experience is advantageous
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-directed and well organized, with close attention to detail
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated interest in continued personal and professional development through project assignments
