European Risk and Compliance Manager

Lead European risk and compliance oversight for Wrisk’s digital automotive insurance operations. Support regulatory governance, customer outcomes, and controlled expansion across Germany and other European markets.

Description

  • Own the European obligations register, permissions map, and jurisdictional compliance framework
  • Track regulatory developments and conduct trends across relevant EU and local markets
  • Evaluate market-entry risks and regulatory perimeter issues for prospective European jurisdictions
  • Maintain and challenge the European risk register, risk appetite position, and key risk indicators
  • Conduct second-line reviews of product governance and distribution arrangements
  • Assess digital customer journeys and outcomes, including transparency, accessibility, and support for vulnerable customers
  • Deliver risk-based compliance monitoring activities
  • Drive monitoring findings to closure and independently confirm remediation
  • Oversee incidents, breaches, complaint themes, root-cause analysis, and partner oversight
  • Prepare meaningful management information and escalate material risks without delay
  • Provide principal second-line oversight for Wrisk Europe GmbH and German insurance distribution activities
  • Convert complex EU and local regulatory standards into practical, proportionate controls for safe European growth
  • Advise European management and challenge decisions while balancing growth with strong conduct standards and customer outcomes

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in second-line risk management and compliance
  • Strong knowledge of EU and local European insurance distribution requirements, including the IDD and applicable conduct rules
  • Background in international expansion, market-entry risk, and multi-jurisdictional regulation across Germany, Ireland, and the wider EEA
  • Proven ability to manage stakeholders effectively
  • Ability to provide pragmatic advice while independently challenging business decisions
  • Strong commitment to customer outcomes, digital journeys, transparency, and fair treatment of vulnerable customers
  • Ability to interpret complex regulation and identify root causes behind incidents or complaints
  • Skill in turning regulatory obligations into practical, proportionate controls
  • Ability to collaborate across Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, Insurance, and Compliance
  • Data-driven, commercially aware, technically curious, highly organised, and effective with senior stakeholders
