Embedded Computing Research Engineer, Embedded Systems

Develop and test C/C++ edge software for GE Vernova’s industrial energy technologies. Support research prototypes, cybersecurity, and the transition of solutions into products.

Description

  • Develop and test edge and embedded software for industrial automation, networking, and enterprise platforms
  • Contribute technical expertise to research and development tasks
  • Turn program requirements into embedded-system designs and implementation plans
  • Create firmware and applications in C/C++ and related languages for resource-limited, real-time platforms
  • Plan, run, and automate unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop, and system tests
  • Help mature research prototypes and transition them to GE Vernova product platforms
  • Work with GE Vernova teams, suppliers, national laboratories, universities, government partners, and strategic business partners
  • Meet program milestones
  • Help prepare proposals, technical reports, and program reviews for internal leaders and government sponsors
  • Use secure-by-design principles and cybersecurity practices across the embedded-software lifecycle
  • Develop solutions for GE Vernova energy businesses and U.S. Government research and development programs

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related discipline
  • 1–5 years of relevant industry experience
  • At least one year of professional work in embedded systems, firmware, or edge software development
  • Proficiency developing embedded software in C and/or C++
  • Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, or system-on-chip platforms and interfaces such as SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, or Ethernet
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, IEC 61850, MQTT, or BACnet
  • Familiarity with Protocol Buffers or JSON
  • Ability to integrate real-time analytics, anomaly detection, and secure data pipelines into edge and embedded applications
  • Experience developing for Linux or real-time operating systems
  • Experience with the embedded-systems lifecycle, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and debugging
  • Willingness to work at GE Vernova’s Niskayuna, New York office
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screening, where applicable
  • Preferred familiarity with industrial control systems, programmable logic controllers, edge controllers, RTOS scheduling, Docker, Kubernetes, embedded cybersecurity, FPGA/ASIC design, Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, CI/CD, networking, and related tools and interfaces
