Director, Core Banking Technology Platforms

Lead PayPal’s core banking technology platforms for deposits, lending, and payments. Shape secure, cloud-native architecture, APIs, and Federal Reserve connectivity.

Description

  • Lead strategy, architecture, implementation, and operations for platforms covering deposits, lending, payment gateways, and Federal Reserve master-account connectivity.
  • Bring banking capabilities together through composable APIs and event-driven architecture.
  • Integrate platforms with identity, fraud, credit, payments, finance, treasury, compliance, data, servicing, and customer experience systems.
  • Oversee business and technical delivery across multiple projects and operational work.
  • Set engineering health objectives, best practices, and operational targets.
  • Shape product and technical strategy with enterprise leaders across functions.
  • Deliver programs and set annual organizational goals.
  • Turn engineering strategy into operational and tactical plans.
  • Set the three-year roadmap and operational strategy within an established budget.
  • Assess complex, ambiguous business challenges and direct innovative solutions.
  • Work with teams, organizational managers, stakeholders, external partners, and business leaders.
  • Recruit and lead senior engineers, architects, engineering managers, and platform teams.
  • Manage critical technology vendors and ensure delivery, reliability, and contractual service levels.

Requirements

  • Bring 10+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Have 2 years of experience leading others.
  • Have 12+ years of software engineering or technology platform experience, including substantial leadership responsibility.
  • Have 7+ years leading engineering teams responsible for banking, payments, or other highly regulated platforms.
  • Have implemented, modernized, or operated core banking platforms covering deposits, lending, or payments.
  • Understand deposit accounts, loan systems, transaction posting, interest processing, payment clearing and settlement, reconciliation, and general ledger integration.
  • Have implemented payment gateways or direct bank connections to ACH, wire, or instant payment networks.
  • Have built enterprise API platforms and event-driven distributed systems.
  • Understand ledger design, double-entry accounting, financial controls, and data lineage.
  • Have integrated banking platforms with identity, fraud, credit decisioning, payments, finance, treasury, compliance, data, and servicing systems.
  • Have a record of delivering highly available, secure, auditable platforms at significant transaction scale.
  • Have managed critical technology vendors and contractual service levels.
  • Have a strong record of recruiting and leading senior engineers, architects, engineering managers, and platform teams.
  • Communicate complex technical and operational issues clearly to executives, business partners, auditors, and regulators.
  • Preferred: experience launching a new bank, digital bank, or banking platform.
  • Preferred: experience with modern, cloud-native, configurable banking cores.
  • Preferred: knowledge of FBO, custodial, and omnibus deposit structures.
  • Preferred: familiarity with FDIC-insured deposit operations and deposit insurance considerations.
  • Preferred: experience supporting interest-bearing consumer accounts and configurable interest-rate products.
  • Preferred: familiarity with banking regulations, cybersecurity, model governance, and financial-crime controls.
  • Preferred: experience connecting separate deposit and lending cores through shared API, event, and accounting architecture.
  • Preferred: experience implementing Federal Reserve master-account connectivity or Federal Reserve payment services.
  • Preferred: experience operating banking platforms across public and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Preferred: a bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
