Malama Health is a healthcare organization focused on pregnancy and postpartum care for women insured through Medicaid. Its model combines community-based doulas, remote monitoring, and care navigation to help members access personalized support throughout pregnancy and after birth. Malama Health also works with clinics, health systems, and Medicaid plans, offering services that include doula matching, maternity support, eligibility checks, and provider and payer partnerships.

Community Doula - Minnesota Hybrid Contract

Provide culturally responsive prenatal, birth, and postpartum support to Minnesota Medicaid members. Document services and coordinate with Malama Health’s maternal-health care team when needs extend beyond doula practice.

Description

  • Deliver non-clinical doula support during pregnancy, labor and birth, and the postpartum period
  • Offer culturally responsive emotional, informational, and physical support based on each member’s preferences and needs
  • Keep service documentation accurate and up to date
  • Comply with relevant privacy, documentation, quality, and payer standards
  • Work with Malama Health’s care team when members require assistance beyond the doula scope of practice
  • Practice independently while Malama Health manages insurance administration, including enrollment, credentialing, billing, and payment

Requirements

  • Practicing birth doula with experience in Minnesota
  • Listed on the Minnesota Doula Registry, or eligible and willing to complete registration
  • Willing to complete required Minnesota Medicaid and health-plan enrollment and credentialing
  • Experience supporting clients through prenatal care, labor and birth, and postpartum recovery
  • Empathetic, positive, collaborative, and comfortable working with people
  • Communicates openly and provides candid feedback
  • Committed to maternal health and Malama Health’s mission of improving outcomes and reducing equity gaps
  • Strong connections to, or lived experience within, the communities served
  • Community roots, passion, and dedication to birth equity are valued; extensive experience is not required
