Cloud Solutions Architect (Mid/Senior) – Virginia Remote

Designing secure, scalable cloud environments for DSCA modernization and federal security cooperation missions. The role leads AWS architecture, migrations, automation, compliance, and infrastructure optimization.

Description

  • Create and optimize secure, scalable cloud infrastructure for the DSCA Office of the CIO
  • Design and improve cloud architectures spanning networking and security
  • Define initial project scope and surface essential dependencies
  • Assess technology risks, develop mitigations, and create supporting architecture
  • Partner with business functions to shape solutions and technical direction
  • Create and document cloud-system integration and implementation frameworks
  • Establish sizing, capacity, infrastructure, networking, and security requirements
  • Architect complete cloud solutions that balance performance, security, scalability, and cost
  • Lead transitions from legacy on-premises platforms to cloud-native environments, preferably AWS GovCloud
  • Build and administer Infrastructure as Code with CloudFormation, AWS CDK, and Terraform
  • Apply IAM, encryption, VPC, network-security, and Zero Trust controls
  • Maintain alignment with DoD RMF, FedRAMP, and related compliance obligations
  • Improve cloud operations through monitoring, cost assessment, performance tuning, and resource governance
  • Work with developers, data engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and other stakeholders
  • Turn complex technical issues into practical solutions and recommendations for senior leaders
  • Support Docker-based containerization and Kubernetes orchestration approaches
  • Build automation workflows and connect them with Jenkins, GitLab, and other CI/CD tooling
  • Take on additional responsibilities that support mission objectives

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of AWS platforms, services, and architectural practices
  • Substantial experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, including CloudFormation and AWS CDK
  • Proficiency in Python or a comparable language for scripting and automation
  • Strong command of networking, IAM, VPCs, encryption, and Zero Trust security models
  • Practical experience with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration
  • Capacity to work effectively both independently and with distributed teams
  • A proactive approach to diagnosing and resolving complex problems
  • An active Secret clearance must be held at the time of consideration and maintained
  • Availability during core business hours aligned with the Eastern Time Zone
  • Solutions Architect III requires 5 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, 3 years with a master's degree, 0 years with a PhD, or 9 years with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Solutions Architect IV requires 9 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, 7 years with a master's degree, 4 years with a PhD, or 13 years with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate or Professional certification, or an equivalent credential, is preferred
  • Background supporting DoD or federal government cloud environments is preferred
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks, ADVANA, or comparable cloud data and analytics platforms is preferred
  • Familiarity with cloud migration tools and approaches is preferred
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure monitoring practices is preferred
  • Experience working in SAFe Agile environments is preferred
  • Strong communication skills with technical teams and senior leadership are preferred
  • Ability to remain seated and work at a computer for extended periods
  • Ability to use a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively through virtual meetings, briefings, and secure collaboration tools
  • Ability to examine, analyze, and interpret digital information for extended periods
  • Occasional ability to lift documents or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds
  • A home workspace that meets company and government security standards must be maintained
  • Ability to work the assigned East Coast core business hours
