Clinical Inquiry Specialist – Genetic Counselor | Abbott | Remote

Provide clinical genetic-testing support at Abbott by managing inquiries, interpreting results, and advising laboratories and clients. Contribute to education, marketing, client communication, and special projects within the genetic testing business.

Description

  • Manage clinical, technical, and scientific genetic-testing inquiries from internal and external clients.
  • Advise laboratory staff and molecular geneticists on accessioning questions, test-order changes, and results interpretation.
  • Partner with molecular geneticists and other teams to deliver accurate, timely test results.
  • Contribute to marketing collateral, website content, scientific events, industry conferences, and genetic-counselor networking.
  • Create educational resources and support presentations for clients and the public.
  • Complete continuing education needed to retain professional certification.
  • Coordinate the intake and delivery of special projects.
  • Take on specialized responsibilities beyond routine genetic counseling work.
  • Support the training of genetic counseling assistants.
  • Escalate identified problems and issues to the Clinical Inquiry Specialist Manager.
  • Follow Abbott’s mission, values, and Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Maintain dependable, regular attendance.
  • Foster inclusion, teamwork, collaboration, and consensus-driven decisions.
  • Work in standard office settings and genetic-testing laboratory areas.
  • Travel locally and overnight for client meetings and conferences.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in genetic counseling.
  • ABGC or CCGC board certification, or eligibility for certification.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • At least two years of clinical experience in pediatric, prenatal, MFM/NICU, or adult genetics, preferably in cardiology or neurology.
  • Preferred experience with whole-genome and whole-exome testing.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of human genetics.
  • Working knowledge of personalized healthcare, clinical genetics, laboratory medicine, and informatics.
  • Ability to explain complex information clearly and appropriately to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service capabilities.
  • Ability to evaluate and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal, nonverbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work the designated schedule.
  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation.
  • Visual, auditory, and physical capacity to complete laboratory and computer-based work.
  • Ability to stand or sit for up to 50 minutes in each hour.
  • Ability to move throughout the building.
  • Willingness and ability to work in standard office and genetic-testing laboratory areas.
