Civil Engineer, Substation Engineering – Cincinnati (Hybrid)

Design and support 4kV–345kV distribution and transmission substations for Duke Energy in Ohio and Kentucky. Develop structural, foundation, and construction engineering deliverables for utility projects.

Description

  • Design new and existing 4kV–345kV distribution and transmission substations across Ohio and Kentucky
  • Complete structural steel design for substation projects
  • Complete reinforced concrete design for substation projects
  • Design mat, spread-footer, and drilled-shaft foundations
  • Review site development designs for assigned work
  • Examine project drawings for accuracy and completeness
  • Provide engineering assistance throughout construction
  • Analyze and resolve increasingly complex engineering issues
  • Plan, estimate, schedule, organize, and monitor engineering activities
  • Coordinate multiple projects and interfaces to support on-time design releases
  • Prepare technical reports, correspondence, calculations, sketches, and project documentation
  • Perform engineering and related technical studies
  • Assemble engineering release packages with drawings, permits, bills of material, and supporting documents
  • Coordinate activities with colleagues, business partners, customers, and the public
  • Keep project records and files accurate and current
  • Assist with emergency storm restoration, including possible extended outdoor work in all weather

Requirements

  • Engineer II candidates need an engineering bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program; a master's degree in engineering may substitute for the bachelor's degree
  • Engineer III candidates need an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering or state registration as a Professional Engineer; a master's degree in engineering may substitute for the bachelor's degree
  • At least 2 years of engineering experience for Engineer II
  • At least 4 years of engineering experience for Engineer III
  • A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • Passing the Professional Engineering Exam is preferred
  • Growing proficiency with project management principles
  • Electric utility industry experience is preferred
  • Electric utility substation design experience is preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience using AutoCAD 2020 or later
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor
  • Experience with structural design tools such as Ram Elements, STAAD.Pro, or RISA-3D
  • Experience designing structural steel and reinforced concrete
  • Experience designing spread-footer and drilled-shaft foundations
  • Willingness to travel outside the assigned geographical area
  • Ability to operate a personal or company vehicle
  • Ability to walk long distances across varied terrain
  • Stamina for moderate physical activity
  • Ability to work lawfully in the United States without employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future and to identify hazards through sight and hearing
