Chief Engineer - Galveston, TX (Onsite)

Lead repair, maintenance, inventory, and safety activities for Callan Marine’s dredging and support equipment. Support vessel and project operations in Galveston and remote project locations.

Description

  • Oversee company-owned and rented equipment.
  • Direct the equipment repair and maintenance program.
  • Maintain equipment inventories and record equipment locations.
  • Manage critical spares and spare-parts inventories.
  • Keep equipment in operating condition and ensure repairs are completed promptly.
  • Report to the Vessel Manager.
  • Advise project management on fuel and servicing intervals, deliveries, and scheduling of non-critical repairs.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and inspection records.
  • Maintain complete equipment repair documentation.
  • Request spare parts and operational supplies.
  • Track and requisition fuel, lubricants, and water.
  • Monitor mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on dredges and support equipment.
  • Apply equipment-related safety rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Initiate corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support safety and environmental initiatives aligned with state and federal regulations and company programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience managing equipment.
  • Experience supervising staff or crew members.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic expertise.
  • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and preventive maintenance capabilities.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Strong mentoring ability.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work as directed and complete tasks accurately and on schedule.
  • Ability to work away from home at remote project locations for extended periods.
  • Reliable and motivated work style.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC.
  • Knowledge of marine equipment, tools, and devices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
  • Ability to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
  • Ability to wear and correctly use required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to walk, step, climb, stand, stoop, twist, bend, crouch, kneel, squat, or sit repetitively or for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements involving the feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands, and back.
  • Ability to lift and carry 30 pounds independently; loads over 30 and up to 60 pounds require additional lifting equipment.
  • Ability to push and pull with peak force of 150 pounds.
  • Ability to climb stairs or vertical ladders measuring 6 feet or more.
  • Ability to work in changing temperatures and outdoor, dusty, wet, humid, loud, and vibrating conditions.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required.
