Chief Engineer - Galveston, TX (Onsite)

Lead equipment management, maintenance, repairs, inventory, and safety for marine dredging operations in Galveston. Oversee mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems while supporting extended remote project deployments.

Description

  • Oversee company-owned and rented equipment.
  • Administer the equipment repair and maintenance program.
  • Manage equipment inventory and location tracking.
  • Control inventory levels for critical spare parts.
  • Report directly to the Vessel Manager.
  • Advise project management on company-interest decisions, including fuel use, service intervals, deliveries, and non-critical repair timing.
  • Keep accurate records of equipment inventory and locations.
  • Ensure equipment stays operational and repairs are completed without undue delay.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports and inspection records.
  • Document completed and ongoing repairs.
  • Maintain and replenish spare-parts stock.
  • Order spare parts and operational supplies as needed.
  • Monitor and request fuel, lubricants, and water.
  • Inspect mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on dredges and support equipment.
  • Apply equipment safety rules and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement corrective and preventive maintenance actions.
  • Support safety and environmental programs that promote regulatory compliance and company objectives.
  • Complete other related responsibilities assigned to the role.

Requirements

  • Background in equipment management.
  • Experience supervising staff or crew members.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic capabilities.
  • Proven troubleshooting, diagnostic, and preventive maintenance abilities.
  • Strong analytical capability.
  • Effective mentoring skills.
  • Ability to follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Ability to work as directed and complete assignments accurately and on schedule.
  • Willingness to work away from home at remote project sites for extended periods.
  • Dependable and self-motivated work style.
  • Ability to obtain a TWIC.
  • Knowledge of marine equipment, tools, and devices across multiple types.
  • Clear and effective communication with coworkers and supervisors.
