C Software Developer – Hybrid in North Carolina

Develop and support SAS server-tier software using C and Java across Unix, Windows, and MVS environments. Contribute to product development, testing, documentation, security, and full software lifecycle support.

Description

  • Create, enhance, and debug software for both new and established products
  • Maintain a core codebase centered on C, with some Java, across Unix, Windows, and MVS platforms
  • Develop and support the SAS language and server components within the SAS9 server-tier architecture
  • Deliver reliable, testable, scalable software within project timelines
  • Partner with managers, developers, designers, and product managers to satisfy functional requirements and R&D standards
  • Help define project scope, schedules, and tracked tasks
  • Raise blockers in a timely manner
  • Carry out unit, functional, and performance testing
  • Maintain test plans for enhancements, redesigns, and defect fixes
  • Take responsibility for the complete software lifecycle, including internal and external user support
  • Create design and technical documentation jointly with technical writers
  • Contribute to open-source initiatives representing SAS
  • Apply relevant security policies and processes to support secure software development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline
  • At least five years of software development experience with C and familiarity with Java
  • Working knowledge of software development tools, methods, and principles
  • Proficiency with source control practices and tools, including branching, code reviews, merging, Git, and Gerrit
  • Strong command of Unix and Windows environments
  • MVS experience is advantageous
  • Comparable education, training, and related experience may substitute for the qualifications listed above
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Self-directed, collaborative, and able to adjust to changing priorities
  • Experience configuring platforms, integrating systems, and managing secrets
  • Proficiency in one scripting language and familiarity with others, such as Python, Perl, or Bash
  • Programming experience in C#, C++, Groovy, SAS, or a comparable language
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Must not need employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
