BI Data Analyst – Johannesburg Hybrid

Join Absa Group as a BI Data Analyst supporting Power BI sustainability reporting and data insights for African banking operations. The role focuses on environmental data validation, dashboards, KPIs, reporting governance, and assurance.

Description

  • Collect environmental sustainability data monthly from internal and external providers
  • Track reporting deadlines and follow up on missing or incomplete environmental data submissions
  • Assess source data for completeness, consistency, plausibility, and accuracy
  • Document validation procedures and retain evidence for reporting and assurance activities
  • Create reports, reporting templates, and standards across multiple technologies
  • Interpret data to generate insights and uncover improvement opportunities
  • Produce tailored and recurring performance reports for the business sales force
  • Find ways to automate reporting and remove duplicated or manual report production
  • Work with stakeholders to understand business problems and uncover analytics opportunities
  • Provide reliable management information to support new product business cases
  • Recommend monitoring approaches and KPIs, then validate the underlying data
  • Use trend analysis to reduce risk, improve performance, and support People Function decisions
  • Review, test, and confirm the accuracy of Power BI dashboards and visualisations
  • Investigate dashboard discrepancies and coordinate resolutions with reporting teams, system administrators, and stakeholders
  • Complete monthly validation and quality assurance checks on environmental sustainability data
  • Conduct trend, variance, and reasonableness analyses
  • Maintain audit trails and supporting records for environmental data
  • Confirm environmental data follows approved methodologies and governance requirements
  • Escalate significant data quality concerns, reporting risks, and compliance issues to management
  • Review and approve environmental reporting outputs before publication
  • Develop trusted stakeholder relationships and provide analytics consultancy
  • Present findings and guide stakeholders on implementing recommended actions
  • Train users on solution design and effective utilisation
  • Assess the reporting impact of proposed management information changes
  • Contribute to new business initiatives and Group stakeholder engagements
  • Keep current with relevant practices while strengthening business and domain expertise
  • Examine business drivers, indicators, relationships, and emerging trends
  • Measure the effects of influencing events and proactively develop solutions
  • Create or modify reports in Workday

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, statistics, environmental management, environmental science, or business analytics
  • Three to five years of experience in data analysis, business intelligence, sustainability reporting, environmental reporting, or data governance
  • Hands-on experience with detailed data validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance
  • Experience handling large, complex datasets from multiple source systems
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or maintaining Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions
  • Experience supporting audit, assurance, or regulatory reporting is advantageous
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability or ESG reporting metrics and methodologies is advantageous
