Backend Software Engineer, Payments Platform — Coinbase (US Remote)

Build Coinbase’s Go-based fiat payment infrastructure as a backend engineer. Develop reliable transaction services, distributed systems, and payment rails serving millions of customers.

Description

  • Develop and ship Go-based backend payment services that process high-volume fiat transactions across multiple payment rails.
  • Own projects from technical design through production deployment.
  • Help design and evolve the Payments Platform’s distributed systems.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and peer code reviews.
  • Collaborate with product managers, senior engineers, and cross-functional partners.
  • Convert product requirements into technical solutions within a quarterly roadmap cycle.
  • Create backend services that support Coinbase customer fiat on- and off-ramps.
  • Improve payment rails, routing, and funds-flow infrastructure linking Coinbase products with global payment methods and financial partners.

Requirements

  • At least two years of experience building and operating backend services in production.
  • Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or a comparable backend language.
  • Experience working with relational databases such as Postgres.
  • Experience developing service-oriented architectures.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native development practices.
  • Ability to deliver complete projects with production-ready, well-tested code.
  • Familiarity with financial systems, payment processing, or highly reliable transactional infrastructure.
  • Ability to use generative AI responsibly while retaining human oversight.
  • Must be located in the United States.
