Associate Clinical Billing Specialist – Little Rock Hybrid

The Associate Clinical Billing Specialist posts payments, reconciles cash, and resolves refunds and denials for UAMS healthcare accounts. This full-time hybrid position includes on-site training and weekly office attendance.

Description

  • Manage assigned work queues in accordance with applicable policies and procedures
  • Perform cash posting, cash control, credit, and data entry or scanning duties
  • Post payments and adjustments accurately and promptly to patient accounts from multiple sources
  • Review explanations of benefits and assign funds to secondary insurance or patient responsibility
  • Scan and index documentation supporting manually posted payments
  • Investigate payments and adjustments that create credit balances or undistributed funds
  • Balance and monitor daily cash and adjustment postings
  • Reconcile unapplied cash accounts and record denial information
  • Investigate missing payments with payers and clearinghouses
  • Assess insurance and patient account credits to determine when refunds are due
  • Locate credit-balance accounts using reports and work queues
  • Research, process, document, and reconcile refunds
  • Apply patient overpayments to outstanding account balances
  • Review and resolve undistributed payments
  • Follow up on unpaid claims and verify or update patient demographic and insurance data
  • Keep current on payer groups, billing procedures, and applicable regulations
  • Perform patient eligibility checks, verify coverage, and request external records
  • Convert payer denial codes into UAMS standard denial codes
  • Investigate recoupments, interest payments, and miscellaneous payment transactions
  • Claim payments, prepare Records of Deposit, split funds, and reconcile bank reports, electronic funds transfers, insurance checks, personal payments, and point-of-service payments
  • Prepare manual payment-posting batches and confirm that all funds are accounted for and properly allocated
  • Research payment issues and communicate with insurance carriers and other agencies
  • Coordinate workflow and contribute to an effective team environment
  • Complete insurance-carrier training when required
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • An associate degree in a related field, or a high school diploma or GED combined with two years of healthcare revenue cycle or bookkeeping experience
  • Working familiarity with Microsoft Windows
  • Ability to accurately review, analyze, and interpret payer contract documents to determine reimbursement
  • Ability to evaluate credit balances
  • Basic mathematical proficiency
  • Above-average communication skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Proof of legal authorization to work in the United States on the first day of employment
  • Completion of pre-employment screening, which may include criminal background, drug, and education verification
  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred
