Application Engineer, Personal Safety — New Zealand Remote
Application Engineer supporting 3M’s Personal Safety portfolio across New Zealand. The role combines workplace assessments, technical support, training, troubleshooting, field evaluation, and product commercialization.
Description
- Collaborate with customers to drive growth through new applications and product commercialization
- Create value propositions that support effective product commercialization
- Lead customer field trials and assess local competitors and marketing practices
- Develop and replicate product and market applications with digital tools
- Provide customer-facing application engineering and technical support for the Personal Safety portfolio in New Zealand
- Visit customers to conduct workplace assessments, application reviews, demonstrations, field trials, and performance evaluations
- Recommend suitable products, applications, and technical solutions
- Investigate technical issues and assist with product implementation
- Work with Sales and Marketing on strategic opportunities, major account conversions, specifications, and channel partner development
- Gather customer insights, market intelligence, unmet needs, and application feedback
- Support product evaluations, validation, new product introduction, commercialization, transitions, changes, and launch readiness
- Deliver technical training, seminars, and workshops for customers, distributors, and internal sales teams
- Assist with technical complaint investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and customer communications
- Support product certification, compliance work, and adherence to applicable standards and requirements
- Coordinate with Sales, Marketing, Portfolio Management, R&D, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Manufacturing, and Asia Application Engineering
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related technical field
- Relevant background in application engineering, technical service, industrial safety, PPE, or a comparable technical discipline
- Experience in customer-facing technical work with distributors or channel partners
- Experience supporting product evaluations, new product introduction, technical training, and complaint resolution
- Familiarity with applicable PPE standards and regulatory requirements is preferred
- Strong application engineering and technical troubleshooting skills
- Customer-focused communication and presentation abilities
- Ability to assess workplace hazards and recommend appropriate technical solutions
- Broad knowledge of PPE and Personal Safety applications
- Ability to influence and collaborate with Sales, Marketing, R&D, Quality, and Regulatory teams
- Strong project coordination and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently with customers across a geographically diverse territory
