Analyst, Global Organized Crime Index — Switzerland Remote

Research illicit economies and coordinate country-profile verification for GI-TOC’s Global Organized Crime Index. Support SCAR methodology, expert engagement, and Index publications.

Description

  • Research and analyze illicit economies for the Global Organized Crime Index project
  • Help organize, deliver, and follow up on dissemination activities, including analytical content, podcasts, media engagements, and CSO and expert meetings
  • Coordinate work among the core Index team, GI-TOC staff, GIN members, and external experts
  • Conduct research, attend events, and represent the Index team
  • Track task progress and expert communications using appropriate templates
  • Oversee the daily research and consolidation of country profiles and summaries prepared by Research Assistants
  • Orient Research Assistants to the Index structure, methodology, research process, and responsibilities
  • Assign and support independent desk research on country profiles by Research Assistants
  • Review Research Assistant outputs for quality, accuracy, and compliance with guidelines
  • Provide weekly updates to the core implementation team on country-profile progress, challenges, Research Assistants, issues, and deadlines
  • Identify and contact organized-crime experts for scoring and verification
  • Manage expert verification of country profiles and thematic areas
  • Monitor verification activities, follow up on deadlines, review submissions, and submit completed expert invoices
  • Keep Index progress records up to date
  • Integrate expert contributions into final internal country profiles
  • Edit profiles for accuracy, grammar, completeness, and unnecessary repetition
  • Incorporate major country developments and revise content in line with Index guidelines
  • Develop, validate, and improve the SCAR framework methodology
  • Conduct literature reviews and create questionnaires assessing organized-crime harms and capabilities
  • Research and finalize actor lists and profiles for the SCAR framework
  • Coordinate criminal-group data collection and scoring with relevant Observatories
  • Identify, engage, and coordinate experts contributing to SCAR
  • Support the drafting, editing, and design of Index publications
  • Complete other related duties assigned by supervisors

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant discipline, such as criminology, organized-crime studies, international relations, or criminal justice
  • Experience conducting investigations, analysis, or research on organized crime is preferred
  • Ability to identify information gaps, conduct research, synthesize findings, develop analysis, and write to tight deadlines
  • Experience using OSINT techniques in research
  • Native or professional spoken and written English proficiency
  • Additional proficiency in a UN language is advantageous
  • Motivation and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional accuracy, attention to detail, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work effectively with substantial autonomy
  • Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across regional and global teams
  • Sound judgment when handling sensitive information
  • Practical assignment: complete either a Timor-Leste criminal-market and actor justification for 2025–2026 or an analytical brief using Global Organized Crime Index data, limited to 800 words
