Actuarial Intern

Support Sompo’s North America Pricing team with actuarial research, business line studies, and account pricing. Join a 10-week, in-office insurance development program.

Description

  • Support senior actuaries with pricing and research.
  • Contribute to studies across business lines.
  • Help price individual accounts.
  • Assist with routine reporting.
  • Learn about business units and pricing practices by working with experienced actuaries.
  • Collaborate with actuaries, underwriters, and other business colleagues.
  • Take part in executive leadership sessions, networking events, and peer activities.
  • Complete a project and present it to a manager and mentor.

Requirements

  • Remain enrolled in a bachelor’s or graduate degree program throughout the internship.
  • A STEM major such as mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, or engineering is preferred.
  • Be an upcoming junior or senior.
  • Show genuine interest in pursuing a career in insurance.
  • Bring strong analytical reasoning and quantitative skills.
  • Show intellectual curiosity and interest in actuarial work.
  • Passing or sitting for at least one CAS exam is preferred.
  • Be willing to learn and contribute to team projects.
  • Communicate ideas clearly in writing and speech.
  • Bring a solution-oriented approach and data analysis skills.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with technology.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Live near the desired office or arrange housing and transportation for the in-office internship.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
