3D CFD Engineer, Propulsion Thermal Management

Develop CFD simulations for General Motors propulsion systems, including engines, motors, batteries, and drive units. Use thermal and fluid analysis to guide propulsion design decisions.

Description

  • Create advanced CFD simulations for electrified propulsion components
  • Work with small engineering teams on complex multiphase-flow and thermal simulations
  • Use simulation insights to influence designs and processes while reducing the need for hardware testing
  • Recommend component-level and system-level designs to Design Responsible Engineers based on analysis findings
  • Contribute to product design and development teams
  • Communicate analysis findings to engineering colleagues and management
  • Support technical problem-solving with analysis-based insights
  • Assess new procedures, technologies, and software tools through benchmarking and evaluation
  • Help develop automation tools in Python or Java

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering
  • At least two years of experience simulating, designing, testing, or releasing propulsion-related systems
  • At least two years of experience conducting CFD analysis for propulsion-related systems
  • Familiarity with, or practical experience in, vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing
  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, with coursework in heat transfer and fluid mechanics preferred
  • Experience using STAR-CCM+ or Simerics-MP+ CFD software preferred
  • Experience with CFD optimization tools preferred
  • Experience correlating test results with models preferred
  • Programming experience in Python, Java, or an equivalent language preferred
  • Linux experience in distributed computing environments preferred
  • Experience with current CFD visualization techniques preferred
  • Knowledge of Siemens NX CAD modeling preferred
  • Successful completion of role-related assessments and/or pre-employment screening may be required
