Senior Engineering Manager, Data Platform - Preply (Hybrid, Ukraine)
Lead Preply’s data platform organization and engineering team in a hybrid Ukraine-based role. Shape Lakehouse, ingestion, governance, and AI-ready infrastructure for a global language-learning marketplace.

- Lead and scale a high-performing data engineering team
- Support engineers through regular feedback, mentorship, and career growth
- Set the long-term direction for Preply’s data foundation, including the Lakehouse, ingestion layers, data contracts, enrichment, and governance
- Partner with Analytics, ML Platform, Data Science, and Product to identify and prioritize high-impact opportunities
- Turn strategy into practical delivery plans while balancing foundational investment against immediate business needs
- Guide technical decisions across batch and streaming ingestion, data modeling, quality, and governance
- Define SLOs, observability practices, and incident response processes for data pipelines
- Improve code quality, operational excellence, development practices, and technology evolution
- Align business stakeholders on priorities, data ownership, standards, and outcomes
- Own hiring standards, team structure, and the team’s operating model
आवश्यकताएँ
- At least 8 years of experience in software or data engineering
- At least 5 years of engineering management experience
- Background leading data or platform engineering teams
- People-focused leadership style with strong team-building capability
- Sound technical judgment and systems-thinking skills
- Experience facilitating architecture discussions and assessing technical trade-offs
- Demonstrated success hiring, coaching, and retaining high-performing teams, including senior engineers
- Experience working with Analytics, Data Science, ML, and Product teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder leadership abilities
- Evidence of delivering measurable, business-oriented results
- Leadership grounded in ethics, empathy, transparency, accountability, and ownership
- Preferred: familiarity with Spark, Flink, Kafka, Debezium, Airflow, dbt, AWS or GCP, and modern DevOps practices
- Preferred: experience leading data platforms adopted by multiple teams in fast-growing companies
- Preferred: experience operating a data platform as a product, including data contracts, self-service onboarding, discoverability, and adoption measurement
- Preferred: experience applying data governance, privacy, and compliance controls at ingestion
- Preferred: familiarity with feature stores, ML data pipelines, or GenAI/RAG data preparation
- Preferred: experience using Agentic AI for architecture, planning, and decision-making while maintaining human judgment, quality gates, and safety nets
