Senior Database Reliability Engineer at Zapier (Remote, US)

Descriere

  • Ensure reliable operation of Redis Enterprise and AWS ElastiCache, covering capacity, failover, upgrades, and sound usage.
  • Join the on-call rotation and escalate data-layer issues during production incidents.
  • Help internal customers investigate slow queries and manage storage use.
  • Turn recurring support requests into useful documentation and tools.
  • Manage database and cache infrastructure through Terraform modules and provisioning workflows.
  • Develop database and cache templates and standards for the internal platform’s golden path.
  • Create and maintain data-layer dashboards, alerts, and service-level objectives.
  • Improve performance and resilience across MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Redis systems.
  • Guide development teams on architecture, database selection, and where to apply caching.
  • Advise product teams on schema design, query patterns, and capacity planning.
  • Lead data-layer design reviews and mentor engineers.
  • Write documentation, operating patterns, and runbooks for database and cache services.
  • Shape Zapier’s data infrastructure strategy and expand its database reliability engineering practice.

Cerințe

  • Bring at least 7 years of experience in systems administration, systems engineering, or software development.
  • Have at least 4 years of experience operating production relational databases.
  • Have deep expertise in MySQL or PostgreSQL and working knowledge of the other.
  • Know database engine ecosystem extensions and tools.
  • Have experience designing and operating caching at scale, including Redis.
  • Have experience designing and operating highly available cloud databases on AWS or another cloud platform.
  • Have managed infrastructure with Terraform or comparable infrastructure-as-code tools.
  • Be comfortable operating stateful services alongside Kubernetes or other distributed systems.
  • Have implemented metrics, logs, and alerts with tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or CloudWatch.
  • Have worked with query performance data, replication lag, and cache hit rates.
  • Have participated in on-call rotations for production data systems.
  • Have reviewed designs, mentored engineers, documented practices, and built automation or tools.
  • Use AI tools responsibly for automation code, query plans, logs, runbooks, and incident investigation.
  • No degree is required.
