Staff Cloud Platform Engineer

Apraksts

  • Define GM’s standard software delivery platform and migrate existing workloads without downtime.
  • Replace manual, ticket-based provisioning with declarative APIs for networking, identity, and accounts.
  • Create APIs, command-line tools, and MCP tools for engineers and AI agents.
  • Design highly available, scalable systems, including cell-based and multi-region architectures.
  • Work with SRE to set useful SLOs and prevent recurring failures.
  • Create fast, safe delivery workflows with built-in promotion, rollback, and policy controls.
  • Build core platform capabilities from API design through production operations.
  • Set technical direction for platform areas and document design decisions.
  • Reduce developer toil and platform instability through software and automation.
  • Create standard, supported paths for software delivery.
  • Use AI tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and agent-based workflows.
  • Work with SRE on reliability, on-call practices, and incident reviews.
  • Mentor senior engineers and review designs and code across teams.
  • Work with application teams to find and resolve platform obstacles.

Prasības

  • At least 10 years building and operating production infrastructure or platforms.
  • Several years in a senior or staff role, providing technical leadership across teams.
  • Extensive hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production at scale, including cluster operations, multi-tenancy, autoscaling, and upgrades.
  • Strong software engineering skills in Go or a comparable language.
  • Experience designing and operating an internal developer platform, PaaS, or cloud control plane.
  • Expertise in infrastructure as code and declarative provisioning, such as Terraform, Crossplane, or Kubernetes operators and controllers.
  • Strong grounding in cloud networking, identity, and security; Azure experience is preferred.
  • A track record of improving reliability through SLOs, observability, and blameless incident practices.
  • A strong product mindset focused on developer experience.
  • Clear written communication and the ability to build support for well-reasoned designs.
  • Experience with Istio or another service mesh, Gateway API, ArgoCD, Kargo, KEDA, Karpenter, or Kyverno is a plus.
  • Experience building or migrating a large platform without tenant downtime is a plus.
  • Experience with Azure Event Hubs or Kafka is a plus.
  • Experience with cell-based or multi-region architectures is a plus.
  • Experience building MCP servers or other interfaces for AI agents is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud cost optimization and FinOps data pipelines is a plus.
  • Open source contributions in the cloud native ecosystem are a plus.
