Cloud Platform Engineer – Kubernetes & Networking (Japan, Hybrid)

Apraksts

  • Build, maintain, and automate internal tools, Kubernetes manifest generators, and Python or Go scripts
  • Upgrade and patch EKS clusters and related components through safe, repeatable automation
  • Manage and optimize Karpenter and Argo CD
  • Implement and operate service mesh technologies such as Istio and Linkerd for traffic management, security, and observability
  • Join an on-call rotation providing 24/7 support for critical platform incidents
  • Monitor platform health, identify emerging issues, and introduce preventative controls
  • Configure and manage CloudFront distributions and WAF web ACLs for secure content delivery and traffic control
  • Create and maintain platform architecture, operational process, and troubleshooting documentation
  • Own and improve PayPay’s application delivery platform from CloudFront through the underlying EKS clusters
  • Develop scalable internal platform tools, custom Kubernetes controllers, and safe automation for complex workflows
  • Improve engineering velocity and establish platform reliability standards

Prasības

  • Proven use of advanced software engineering practices, including unit and integration testing
  • In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes internals and the controller-runtime framework
  • Experience developing, testing, and maintaining custom controllers, operators, and CustomResourceDefinitions
  • Experience as a Platform Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, or comparable professional with end-to-end platform ownership
  • Strong practical knowledge of Karpenter, Argo CD, and Terraform
  • Strong networking fundamentals, including end-to-end troubleshooting across CloudFront, WAF, load balancers, Kubernetes networking, service meshes, and workloads
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Production experience with Python or Go, plus the ability to become productive in the other language
  • Broad foundation in cloud infrastructure, networking, Kubernetes, and service mesh technologies
  • Ability to use AI-assisted development effectively while maintaining accountability for production stability, maintainable code, and operational safety
